HOW MUCH DECORATIVE ROCK DO I NEED?
Figuring out your material needs is simple. As a general industry rule for landscaping, you want to lay decorative rock at a depth of 3 inches to ensure proper coverage and weed suppression.
The Rule of Thumb: 1 cubic yard of rock covers approximately 120 square feet at a 2-inch depth.
Calculation Steps: Measure the length and width of you area in feet. Multiply the length by the width to get your square footage. Divide your total square footage by 120 to the estimated cubic yards needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED ROCK QUESTIONS
Should I put landscape fabric under the rock?
Yes, we highly recommend laying down a professional-grade, woven weed barrier fabric before spreading your rock. This prevents the rock from sinking into Idaho’s clay soil over time and drastically reduces weed growth, keeping your beds looking pristine.
What size rock is best for walking on?
For areas with foot traffic, you want a smaller, angular rock (like a 3/4-inch crushed gravel or pathway fines). Angular rock locks together to create a stable walking surface, whereas smooth, round river rock tends to shift and roll underfoot.
How do I match an existing rock in my yard?
Because rock is a natural product mined from local quarries, colors and seams can change slightly over the years. The most foolproof way to match your existing landscape is to bring a small bucket or bag of your current rock directly to our Meridian yard. Our staff will help you find the closest match in our current inventory.
