ESSENTIAL PROTECTION FOR TREASURE VALLEY GARDENS
Southern Idaho’s climate is incredibly tough on plants. The intense summer sun bakes the moisture out of the ground, while our dense clay soils struggle to absorb water. A thick layer of organic bark acts like a sponge. It insulates the root systems of your newly planted trees and shrubs from extreme heat, drastically reduces the amount of water lost to evaporation, and slowly breaks down over time to loosen and enrich the tough native hardpan soil beneath it.

HOW MUCH BARK DO I NEED?
For new garden beds or around newly planted trees, industry standards recommend laying bark at a depth of 2 to 3 inches for optimal moisture retention and weed suppression. If you are just ‘top-dressing’ an existing bed to refresh the color, a 1-inch layer is usually sufficient.
The Rule of Thumb:
1 cubic yard of bark covers approximately 120 square feet at a 2-inch depth.
Calculation Steps:
- Measure the length and width of your garden bed in feet.
- Multiply the length by the width to get your total square footage
- Divide your square footage by 120 (for a 2″ depth) to calculate the cubic yards needed.
SKIP THE BAGS: HIGH-CAPACITY DUMP TRUCK DELIVERY
Buying bark in little plastic bags from a big-box store is exhausting, expensive, and terrible for the environment. Buy like the pros do. Our heavy-duty dump trucks can transport massive volumes of bulk bark directly to your property in a single trip. We safely dump the material right onto your driveway, leaving you a convenient, ready-to-wheelbarrow pile.
FREQUENTLY ASKED DELIVERY QUESTIONS
Should I put weed fabric down before adding bark?
This is a great question. Fabric is highly recommended under all materials including bark to prevent weeds. Keep in mind, bark is designed to slowly decompose and feed the soil beneath it. If you put a fabric barrier between the bark and the dirt, the soil cannot receive those vital nutrients.
Will the wind blow my bark away?
If you live in a high-wind area like South Nampa or the Eagle Foothills, wind can occasionally be an issue for very lightweight or dry mulch. To combat this, we recommend using a heavier ‘Bark Nugget’ or wetting down your shredded bark immediately after spreading it, which helps it mat together and lock into place.
How often do I need to replace by bark?
Because natural bark is organic and breaks down into compost, you will typically need to ‘top-dress’ your beds with a fresh 1-inch layer every 1 to 2 years to maintain a vibrant color and keep the weed-suppressing barrier thick.
