FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHADE TREES
What are the best fast-growing shade trees for the Boise area?
If you want fast canopy coverage, Autumn Blaze Maples, various Ash varieties, and specific types of Locust trees perform exceptionally well in the Treasure Valley. Keep in mind that ‘fast-growing’ often means softer wood, so proper pruning and professional staking during our free planting service are essential to protect them from high winds.
How far from my house or driveway should I plant a large tree?
As a general rule, large shade trees (like Oaks or large Maples) should be planted at least 15 to 20 feet away from your home’s foundation, driveways, or underground utility lines. This gives the root system plenty of room to expand without causing structural damage, and prevents the mature canopy from scraping your roof.
When do flowering trees usually bloom in Idaho?
Depending on the harshness of the winter, most of our flowering ornamentals (like Crabapples, flowering Plums, and Cherries) will put on their vibrant floral displays between early April and mid-May. Walking our Meridian nursery during the spring is the best way to see the true colors of our inventory.
Can I transport a large shade tree in my own pickup?
While you can pick up smaller potted trees, we highly discourage transporting large specimen trees in standard pickup trucks. Driving at highway speeds strips the leaves, damages the branches, and stresses the tree’s vascular system. Our specialized delivery flatbeds are designed to protect the tree during transit.
